# Risk scoring

> How Retina integrates Diapleo for wallet and protocol risk scoring, how to generate an API key, and what the free tier and Diapleo Pro each unlock.

**Diapleo** is the data source behind the [Risk Scores](/pages/risk-scores) page.

  Wallet scanning requires your own Diapleo API key. The free tier covers limited protocol risk only. Diapleo Pro is required for wallet scanning, sub-score breakdowns, and higher rate limits.

## Generate a key

1. Sign in at [diapleo.com/profile](https://diapleo.com/profile).
2. Create an API key from the profile page.
3. Paste the key into the Risk Scores page in Retina.

The key is stored in browser storage on this device, alongside your snapshots and wallets. It is never sent anywhere other than to Diapleo.

## Without a key

The Protocols tab of the Risk Scores page works without a key. It is the global Diapleo index of every protocol they track, sortable by composite risk.
