# Maturity and locked positions

> Where Retina sources maturity dates for Pendle PTs, fixed-term vaults, and Polymarket markets, and how the 7 Maturity Ladder buckets are defined.

A maturity is the date a time-locked position becomes redeemable. The [Maturity Ladder](/pages/maturity-ladder) sorts every locked position by how close that date is.

## Where maturity comes from

| Protocol / source     | Maturity is                                     |
| --------------------- | ----------------------------------------------- |
| **Pendle**            | PT redemption date                              |
| **Fixed-term vaults** | The lock-end date the vault advertises          |
| **Polymarket**        | Market resolution date                          |
| **Manual position**   | The date you entered when creating the position |

For positions that are locked without a fixed unlock date (some staking products, some vaults), Retina puts them in the **LOCKED** bucket rather than guessing a date.

## How bucketing works

Every locked position falls into 1 of 7 buckets based on the gap between today and its maturity:

| Bucket      | Meaning                         |
| ----------- | ------------------------------- |
| **EXPIRED** | Maturity passed, redeemable now |
| **TODAY**   | Matures today                   |
| **URGENT**  | Very soon                       |
| **NEAR**    | Next few weeks                  |
| **MID**     | Next month or 2                 |
| **FAR**     | Further out                     |
| **LOCKED**  | No fixed maturity date          |
