# Asset classes

> How Retina groups positions by economic exposure (USD, BTC, ETH, HYPE, Other, Metals, Polymarket) so the Dashboard's allocation pie reflects real risk.

In Retina, **asset class** is the economic exposure category of a position. It is not the same as [position type](/concepts/position-types). A staked ETH LST is the position type "Staking" and the asset class "ETH".

## The classes

| Class | What goes in it |
| -------------- | --------------------------------------------------------- |
| **USD** | Stablecoins and USD-denominated positions |
| **BTC** | BTC and BTC-backed assets, including LSTs |
| **ETH** | ETH and ETH-derived assets, including LSTs |
| **HYPE** | Hyperliquid-native assets and derivatives, including LSTs |
| **Other** | Anything that does not fit a class above |
| **Metals** | Physical gold and silver |
| **Polymarket** | Open Polymarket positions |

## Why economic exposure

If you hold 1 ETH directly, 1 wstETH on Lido, and 1 weETH on EtherFi, all 3 move with the price of ETH. Grouping them as "Staking" or "Wallet" tells you how you hold them. Grouping them as **ETH** tells you what you are exposed to. The Dashboard's Economic Asset Allocation pie uses the asset class so the slices add up to a real exposure breakdown.
